The world knows him as the Master of the Macabre. There are many avid readers of his work that recognize him as the Father of the Detective Story also. I recognize him as having been a great pioneer which possessed much creative genius and skill. Yet much like Van Gogh, his passion and lust for life so to say, was so often times refuted and misunderstood.
Many of us can relate to this. I myself, most certainly can… And when I was visiting his former home and resting place (in Baltimore, MD) with a friend this past summer, a great sense of humility overcame me. I was sincerely moved by just how one’s desire to express can be such a gift and become cherished by so many… Even in death. This was how the story was to unfold for our beloved Edgar Allen Poe.
